This incident is resolved. Image generation and uploads have been working normally since 15:19 CEST.
The cause was an outage of our storage provider's object storage service in several European regions. Nonli was affected from 11:15 to 12:05 CEST and from 14:40 to 15:19 CEST. We also deployed changes today that make our image service more resilient to this kind of storage failure.
Images, uploads and posts that failed during these two windows were not saved and will not recover on their own. If a visual is still missing or a post failed, please retry it or regenerate the image.

The issue has returned. Since around 14:40 CEST, our image storage provider has been failing again, more severely than this morning, and most images cannot be generated or uploaded.
Affected: image upload in the editor, link previews generated from URLs, smart images and text-on-photo, and Organic Listening and Spotlight thumbnails. Video publishing is not affected.
We have reported the issue to our provider and are working to limit the impact on our side. We will post an update as soon as we have more information.

A fix was deployed at 12:03 CEST to make our image service more resilient to the storage errors. Since then, image generation has been recovering and most requests are succeeding again.
Our storage provider is still returning some intermittent errors and we have reported the issue to them. We are monitoring the situation closely. Some images may still fail occasionally; retrying usually works.
